WHAT IS PERIODONTIST?
A periodontist is
a specially trained dentist who specializes in evaluating and treating
periodontal ("gum") disease using both surgical
and non-surgical approaches. A periodontist also specializes in
soft-tissue ("gum") procedures which enhance
the esthetics of your gum line, sometimes in preparation for cosmetic
dentistry; as well as specializing in the placement of dental implants.
ABOUT PERIODONTICS
A Periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention,
diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease. A Periodontist also
plans for, surgically places and maintains dental implants. Also,
periodontists perform such cosmetic surgical procedures as treating
gum recession and shaping your gum tissue before crown placement
or after orthodontic treatment. Periodontists receive extensive
specialized training, including three years of additional training
beyond dental school, to learn the most recent advances available
to diagnose and treat periodontal disease.
